Santorini Settlements and Villages

Pirgos features as a middle-age gem in Santorini and stands proudly on a hill overlooking the whole of the island, from one end to the other, from Akrotiri to Ia.

It is a kastelli which still holds on to the characteristics of the Venetian empire, spreading throughout churches and remains, oozing out a great sense of power and prosperity.

Three large blue domes decorate the village, where noble and village houses exist together in harmony. The permanent residents with their minimal, merry houses are live witnesses of a quiet and human way of living that has survived the sometimes painful passing of the years.

I wonder if the Santorinians have built so many churches in order to propitiate the angry volcano…From Pirgos you are guaranteed the best panoramic view of the island!
