Sikinos Island
Sikinos is another Cycladic island of outstanding beauty. Although its one of the smallest islands with not a huge tourist interest, Sikinos has dedicated fans who visit it every year. The local hospitality has undoubtedly played a big role in this love affair, along with the authentic Aegean beauty of the island’s scenery.
In Sikinos you can find some of the best traditional mansions in the Cycladic islands which proudly place its town in the top of the list. Sikinos has only one road stretching out between its port and the town, at a length of 3,5km. From then on, it is heaven for the kinds of travelers who particularly enjoy walking.
There isn’t that many green areas or scenery in Sikinos but this isn’t characteristic of the Cycladic islands anyway, so don’t visit any of these islands unless you are into a drier, more rocky and adventurous holiday.
A very indicative “sport” of Sikinos lifestyle, however, is the shrimp fishing event which takes place just before the end of August; both visitors and residents give their soul to it and create a vibrant feast around it. Having said that, I can guarantee you that you have never tasted most delicious shrimp than the ones you will fish yourself and enjoy in Sikino
